Create own openwrt firmware for Gl-iNet router

Inorder to create your own customise firmware, you need a linux operating system. My favourite is uses virtualbox from Oracle, there are readily linux images in virtualbox where you can just download and open it with virtualbox and I used this image LinuxMint 16 KDE 64bit

Please note that the steps below is not a full detail guides, some steps might had been omitted.

Download a new image builder

Got to openWRT site look out for chipset ar71XX series and

download OpenWrt-ImageBuilder-ar71xx_generic-for-linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

Using the below command in terminal to download and unpack

tar -xvjf OpenWrt-ImageBuilder-ar71xx_generic-for-linux-x86_64.tar.bz2
cd OpenWrt-ImageBuilder-ar71xx_generic-for-linux-x86_64

Compile the file using the below example command

make image PROFILE=XYZ PACKAGES=”pkg1 pkg2 pkg3 pkg4 pkg5 pkg6″ FILES=/files

make image PROFILE=SK4GRT PACKAGES=”kmod-usb-acm kmod-usb-net kmod-usb-net-sierrawireless kmod-usb-ohci kmod-usb-serial kmod-usb-serial-option kmod-usb-serial-qualcomm kmod-usb-serial-qualcomm kmod-usb-net-sierrawireless kmod-usb-serial-sierrawireless kmod-usb-uhci kmod-usb-uhci kmod-usb2 luci-proto-3g luci-proto-relay luci-app-qos luci-app-ddns luci-app-ntpc ppp ppp-mod-pppoe wpad-mini wireless-tools usb-modeswitch usb-modeswitch procps kmod-usb-net-cdc-ether kmod-usb-net-cdc-mbim kmod-usb-net-cdc-ncm kmod-usb-net-rndis kmod-usb-net-qmi-wwan luci luci-i18n-chinese luci-proto-ipv6 luci-sgi-uhttpd nano” FILES=files/
